Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 5. Ananias and Sapphira, sold some land and it belonged to them. They wanted to look good so they contrived to give less than they sold it for implying, that they were giving all to God. They were lying to God and therefore they died. Many conversions and healing, showed the power which went hand in hand with the preaching of the gospel. The priests were, jealous and afraid, that every one was going to convert, so they had apostles imprisoned. Once again God intervened and they were set free by an angel. The apostles testify to Christ before the council. The advice of Gamaliel, was that if the works they were doing were not of God they would fail anyway. The council, afraid of God and the people let the apostles go. “38 So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, 40 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. 42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” Acts 5:38-42, English Standard Version (ESV). The decision to omit the truth caused Ananias and Sapphira to lie to God. The truth that the disciples preach brings freedom, life, and love to may people. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,” 2 Peter 3:10-11 ESV. It is best for us to share God’s love through Jesus. That is why we keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The reason that Christianity survives is because, it is of God!

Believers unite in? – Acts 4

8th Year 12-13 Edition 3 – 2nd Acts 4

l The Feast l

Nov 29_2012 II Acts 4

Return to Admenu Home

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 4. Because the priests, depended on the people for their living, they were afraid that many people would follow Peter and John, because of the miracle performed at the temple gate, the priests had them imprisoned. In spite of the persecution the apostles boldly testify to the love and power Christ. Peter and John loved the Lord and would not be silenced. Just as we do today the believers unite in prayer and praise. The holy charity of the Christians. “32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” Acts 4:32-37, English Standard Version (ESV). Does this mean we should run out and sell all of our possessions and give them to the church?. Certainly not, as good stewards we must continue to provide for our family as well as support God’s family. If you sold your home or your car or any possessions to try and appease God it would be like trying to buy salvation. However if out of your abundance you sold property to help house and feed the needy in our church, because of love, God will certainly bless you. To make decisions that would adversely affect your home and family would not glorify God. Make every effort to continue sharing God’s love and gifts at every opportunity. “[His Steadfast Love Endures Forever] Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1,26 ESV. There is only one name under heaven by which people can be saved. That is why we keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life!

Return to Admenu Home

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 3. The apostles were together at the temple, as John and Peter approached this temple there was a lame man asking for alms. The spirit moved, them he was healed by the Holy Spirit. When he tried to give the credit to Peter and John, they were quick to tell him that he was healed by our God. Peter’s addresses the Jews, reminding them what Moses spoke of concerning the savior . “22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ 24 And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. 25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ 26 God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” Acts 3:22-26, English Standard Version (ESV). When we are saved into the family of God, we no different than the Jews peter was addressing. We must turn from wicked and dark ways to join God’s family.

How To Fish – Devotional series by Pastor, Glen Aycock, will continue soon.  Pray for God hold him up to glorify Jesus in tonight’s service.

Without God’s gift of salvation and filling of the Holy Spirit, our righteousness amounts to no more than filthy rags. Without turning from sin and accepting Jesus our lives only purpose would be to serve our own divisiveness and pride. “[David’s Song of Thanks] Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” 1 Chronicles 16:8 ESV. Let’s, keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus gives our life goodness, direction and purpose in His name.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 2. The apostles were together, praying knowing that what Jesus promised wouk=ld be delivered. Then we see the descent of the Holy Spirit at the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit rested on the apostles like tongues of fire. There was no babel talk, they are speaking in divers languages. Peter’s address to the Jews saying; Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy”, he iterated this prophesy is for you and I. The Christian movement started out on fire there. Because of their witness that day, three thousand souls converted. Yes we should be involved in our church, if someone says your acting pious, thank them and point out the piety and affection of the disciples. “46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 1:24-26, English Standard Version (ESV). When you were saved you were sealed by the Holy Spirit. God poured out the Holy Spirit on you to teach and guide you what to say. Don’t drop out into the world, drop in to God’s Church.

How to Fish Series- What’s in your Ice chest? (Devotional 2)

(Sermon outline excerpt of “Gone Fishing!” byJoe Alain)

SCRIPTURE: Mark 1:17-18

Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

What’s in Your Ice Chest?

Could it be that maybe one reason some folks aren’t too quick to see too many people coming into the church is the same reason some of us don’t care if we catch too many fish at the lake? Fish are messy! If I catch a mess I have a mess to clean when I get home. It’s much easier to just “wet my line” and sit a spell under the cypress tree, eat my sandwich and Twinkie, and sip on my Barges Root Beer. It doesn’t take much effort to fish and not catch anything. But it does take some effort to fish like you really want to fill your ice chest.

The question for us is what kind of “fishers of men” are we? Are we content to practice casting our weighted line in the backyard? Or are we truly after some fish and will do whatever it takes to catch some? Of course it’s easier to just “wet a line” and say we’re fishing, and so the church today has mastered the art of fishing without ever really catching much. Instead of fishing for men and women we often busy ourselves by attending fishing seminars, telling fish stories, or fixing up the fishing camp (the church house), contented with the thought that because our tree appears green we must be fruitful, even though the evidence suggests otherwise. It has been a publicized statistic in my denomination that 70% of our churches are plateaued or declining. This begs the question, “Are we truly fishing or just wetting a line?” In many instances, our fishing today consists mainly of fishing for children of church members in the safe church pond or transferring fish from one church ice chest to another one down the street. Few churches are impacting the pagan pool and reaching their God — given potential!”(Joe Alain)

COMMENTS BY PASTOR GLEN:

The time is short and now is the time to broaden our outreach and each follower of Jesus share with others outside of the church what you have experienced since you became a believer and active follower of Christ. God bless you as you accept this challenge and do it this week. Get ready to fish!! Ask God to direct you to some soul today. Charles Spurgeon a great evangelist promised God that he would not sleep until he had spoken to some soul about Jesus. He was faithful to his word and presented these souls to Jesus. Is it any wonder that His preaching was anointed and touched multitudes of people?

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Dear Jesus help us to prepare to catch “fish” for you as fishers of men. Amen.”

God’s gift of salvation and fillinng of the Holy Spirit, comes with a purpose. Yes being clean and in the house of God feels good. There is more, you can soar when you serve our Lord, in prayer, action and fellowship. Sharing this gift enhances your life Saint! “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16 ESV. We will continue to, keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Keep on sharing the gift of God (salvation through Jesus) at every opportunity, with every person you meet. Remember you don’t have to like ninnies to pray for them.

Nov 26_2012 Acts 1

Return to Admenu Home

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 1. Proofs of Christ’s resurrection, backed by witness of His missions and resurrection. Prior to his ascension Jesus explains that he must leave for the Holy Spirit to descend. After appearing to the apostles for 40 days, Christ ascended. The apostles unite in prayer to choose a replacement for Judas. “24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.” Acts 1:24-26, English Standard Version (ESV). They casts lots in hope that God’s will not theirs will choose Judas replacement. We need not help God, just pray that his will be done.

Acts An Overview;

This book unites the Gospels to the Epistles. It contains many particulars concerning the apostles Peter and Paul, and of the Christian church from the ascension of our Saviour to the arrival of St. Paul at Rome, a space of about thirty years. St. Luke was the writer of this book; he was present at many of the events he relates, and attended Paul to Rome. But the narrative does not afford a complete history of the church during the time to which it refers, nor even of St. Paul’s life. The object of the book has been considered to be, 1. To relate in what manner the gifts of the Holy Spirit were communicated on the day of Pentecost, and the miracles performed by the apostles, to confirm the truth of Christianity, as showing that Christ’s declarations were really fulfilled. 2. To prove the claim of the Gentiles to be admitted into the church of Christ. This is shown by much of the contents of the book. A large portion of the Acts is occupied by the discourses or sermons of various persons, the language and manner of which differ, and all of which will be found according to the persons by whom they were delivered, and the occasions on which they were spoken. It seems that most of these discourses are only the substance of what was actually delivered. They relate nevertheless fully to Jesus as the Christ, the anointed Messiah.” – Matthew Henry Concise Commentary

Jesus paid the price for our sin and overcame death. Then he ascended so that the Holy Spirit could descend on all who accept the gift of salvation. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Hebrews 12:28 NKJV. With all this in mind, keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Share the gift of God (salvation through Jesus) at every opportunity. Keep your eyes on Jesus remembering that God isn’t willing for any person to buy the farm without knowing Jesus as their savior.

Can we pay for our sin? – 2 Sam 24

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, 2nd Samuel 24. Because of his pride David sins numbering the people. God requires David to choose the punishment for his sin. He chooses the pestilence. At Jerusalem God stays the pestilence. David realizes it is not a sacrifice if he doesn’t pay for it personally. The Lord responds removing the plague from Israel. “24 But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 And David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord responded to the plea for the land, and the plague was averted from Israel.” 2 Samuel 24:24-25, English Standard Version (ESV). Look at what happened here as David pays for sin. Praise God, Jesus paid the whole price for our sin. We can’t earn it, buy it or pay for it, we don’t sacrifice to be free of sin. We can make some sacrifices in appreciation of what Jesus has done for us.

Never attempt to pay for God’s gift of salvation. Whatever you do for Jesus, do it out of love for our awesome God! “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17 ESV. Please keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Give God the glory in all things, let him be in charge of every area of your life. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, never be averted by the actions of men.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, 2nd Samuel 23. David’s last words, his house stands with God. David’s mighty men Josheb-basshebeth, Eleazar and Shammah, serve God as they serve David. “16 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it. He poured it out to the Lord 17 and said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.” 2 Samuel 23:16-17, English Standard Version (ESV). No matter what your day, goals or circumstance, when serving God and your fellow man, you’ll be victorious.

Gone Fishing devotional series by Pastor, Glen Aycock;

GONE FISHING SERIES

SCRIPTURE: John 21:33

3 Simon Peter announced, “I’m going fishing.” The rest of them replied, “We’re going with you.” They went out and got in the boat. They caught nothing that night.

4 When the sun came up, Jesus was standing on the beach, but they didn’t recognize him.

5 Jesus spoke to them: “Good morning! Did you catch anything for breakfast?” They answered, “No.”

6 He said, “Throw the net off the right side of the boat and see what happens.” They did what he said. All of a sudden there were so many fish in it, they weren’t strong enough to pull it in.In this series we will learn from the Master about fishing.

In John 21:3 we discover that the disciples embarked on a fishing trip. Simon Peter told his partners, “I’m going fishing.” The disciples chimed in and said “we’re going too!” So the disciples posted their “gone fishing” sign on the upper room door and headed out to the lake. Maybe the pecan trees were not budding, the worms were not falling from the willow trees, or the water was too high because verse 3 tell us this fishing trip was a dud — “that night they caught nothing.

It wasn’t that the disciples had not tried to catch fish. They toiled all night. It wasn’t that the disciples did not have the right equipment. They had the best tackle. It wasn’t even the time of day that was the problem. It takes more than toiling, more than tackle, and more than time. If you are fishing in the wrong place none of that matters.

Fishing or “Wetting a Line”

Without the presence of fish the disciples were simply “wetting a line.” There are really two kinds of fisherman. Some fish to catch fish. They are not satisfied unless the ice chest is full at the end of the day. Anything less is almost considered a failure. Then there are those who are recreational fishermen. They are more interested in the experience than they are catching fish. They are satisfied with just getting out for the day and “wetting a line.” If they catch a few fish that’s fine but if they don’t, they still enjoy the trip.

What may be enjoyable as a recreational pastime is deadly from a spiritual perspective. The church (followers of Jesus) is called to be “fishers of men,” yet often we may just be “wetting a line.” We may have little concern if we have the right approach. We may have little concern if we are fishing in the right place. Worst of all, we may have little concern if we catch any fish!

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Jesus help us to become fishers of men!! Amen.“

We know that the only way to have an abundant life is to be Christ centered. “[Alive in Christ] Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7 ESV. Always keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Put God first in every area of your life.
