May 31, 2013 – Nehemiah 12

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 12. The genealogy of the priests and Levites that returned. The wall is dedicated with praise and thanksgiving. The officers were appointed over the storerooms, the contributions, the first fruits, and the tithes.  “46 For long ago in the days of David and Asaph there were directors of the singers, and there were songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. 47 And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah gave the daily portions for the singers and the gatekeepers; and they set apart that which was for the Levites; and the Levites set apart that which was for the sons of Aaron.”  Nehemiah 12:31:36 English Standard Version (ESV).  Giving was not looked at as a burden or solemn duty. They gave to God with praise and thanks giving. “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ESV.  What a Joy it is to be able to go to God with praises and thanksgiving.  There will be no grief, burden, sadness, pain nor sorrow when we join Jesus (see Revelation 21:4).   Jesus Himself will wipe away any tears.  When the Church joins Jesus it will be a joyful event.

  May 30, 2013 – Nehemiah 11

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 11. The distribution of the people of God.  31 The people of Benjamin also lived from Geba onward, at Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its villages, 32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36 And certain divisions of the Levites in Judah were assigned to Benjamin.  Nehemiah 11:31:36 English Standard Version (ESV).  Once again we see that there is a purpose for everyone who accepts Jesus as their savior.  In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” Psalm 56:4 ESV.  Jesus saves us from sin and suffering.  He has a purpose for everyone he saves.  When Jesus gives you an assignment the Holy Spirit gives you understanding and God will supply the means.  For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” 1 Corinthians 10:26

  May 29, 2013 – Nehemiah 10

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 10. Those entering a covenant with God, are turning from world, and are vowing to be directed by the Word of God.  They make a pledge saying they will live to serve God “…39 For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where the vessels of the sanctuary are, as well as the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not neglect the house of our God.”  Nehemiah 10:39 English Standard Version (ESV).  Many people eagerly ask Jesus in to their lives.  Unlike Jesus they drift away from their relationship with the Son of God.  But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.” Psalm 103:17-18 ESV.  Jesus saves us from sin and suffering.  He paid for all of our sins and is faithful to forgive us when we slip back into sin.  All that he requires from us is that we truly repent and ask Jesus to forgive us.

  May 28, 2013 – Nehemiah 9

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 9. Having read today’s chapter I must say again; Our God is Awesome and true! 38 “Because of all this we make a firm covenant in writing; on the sealed document are the names of our princes, our Levites, and our priests.  Nehemiah 9:38 English Standard Version (ESV).  Everywhere we look in God’s Word shows us how much our God loves us.  If we’re ready to confess our sin and repent God is faithful to forgive us. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15 ESV.  Love God with all your being!  Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.  Love the sinner and hate the sin.  It’s true; We are weak but God is strong.  Share the love and mercy that Jesus shares with you.

Rejoice on Memorial Day!

Rejoice on Memorial Day!

image

  May 27, 2013 – Nehemiah 8

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 8. The Feast commences with the reading and expounding the law. God’s people are called upon to be joyful.  All the people feast together and God’s joy is on the people. 17 And all the assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths, for from the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the people of Israel had not done so. And there was very great rejoicing. 18 And day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. They kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly, according to the rule.  Nehemiah 8: 17-18 English Standard Version (ESV).  Joy and love is what God wants for us Saints.  So enjoy Memorial Day, praising God and thanking Him for the ones who came before us insuring our rights and freedom.  Those who carried the Word of God to us.  But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24 ESV.  God has blessed our forefathers and those who came before us teaching the word of God.  We are a blessing to those who come after us as we obey and share God’s Holy Word.

God’s word teaches us how to have a loving and meaningful memorial day. See Pastor Glens newest devotional a; Meaningful Mourning.

  May 26, 2013 – Nehemiah 7

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 7; In order for the city to stand it is more important to depend on its people rather than its walls. 73 So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel, lived in their towns.  And when the seventh month had come, the people of Israel were in their towns.  Nehemiah 7: 19 English Standard Version (ESV).  We know that God’s blesses His people and these genealogies further serve to let us know that Jesus knows each person that he calls.  God doesn’t call his people into condemnation, we are called into salvation.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:17 ESV.  God loves every individual that comes to repentance and accepts Jesus as their Lord and savior.  Jesus promises each Saint that he will never leave or forsake him.  These genealogies we are Feasting on serves to build our faith in that Jesus knows each one of His people.

  May 25, 2013 – Nehemiah 6

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 6; When the wall was completed Sanballat’s and the rest of their enemies plot to hinder Nehemiah. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired  false prophets to frighten Nehemiah. many in Judah were bound by oath to Tobiah and that caused treachery of some among the Jews. (15-19); 19 Also they spoke of his good deeds in my presence and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to make me afraid.  Nehemiah 6: 19 English Standard Version (ESV).  When we look at the deceit and treachery we have to ask ourselves; Who was behind it?  Jesus tells us who the enemy really is and how we are to defend against the enemy in the Word.  [Hearing and Doing the Word] Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;” James 1:19 ESV.  God never wanted us to be in the dark.  What is it we are supposed to be quick to hear?  That’s easy if you want to know read God’s Word (see Romans 10:17).   So who is the enemy and how do we defend ourselves?  The enemy is the devil and God’s Word tells us how to defend ourselves in Ephesians 6.  Once again we see the value in this Feast we share in God’s Word.

Where is my reward?

Where is my reward?

image

  May 24, 2013 – Nehemiah 5

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 5; The Jews were mortgaging their land and houses to get grain because of the famine. Nehemiah was angry about how the people were putting their own people under bondage for profit.  Nehemiah sets the example by showing mercy and forgiving any debts owed to himself; 18 Now what was prepared at my expense for each day was one ox and six choice sheep and birds, and every ten days all kinds of wine in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor, because the service was too heavy on this people. 19 Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.  Nehemiah 5:18-19 English Standard Version (ESV).  How are we supposed to treat those who are in debt to us?  No matter what they owe us we must not charge interest. ““You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest.” Deuteronomy 23:19 ESV.   There is no ambiguity there, and what did we read today in Nehemiah; “10 Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest.” Nehemiah 5:10 ESV.  God never changes He is the same today, yesterday and forever.  If you have an opportunity to help another person don’t charge them interest and God will reward you.  If you charge interest your reward and condemnation is in the interest you received.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 4; As the Israelites are building up of the walls of Jerusalem, they face the opposition of those who hate God. The designs of God’s enemies are to foil the good works and love of God’s people.  Nehemiah’s takes precautions to guard against the enemies of God and His people.    21 So we labored at the work, and half of them held the spears from the break of dawn until the stars came out. 22 I also said to the people at that time, “Let every man and his servant pass the night within Jerusalem, that they may be a guard for us by night and may labor by day.” 23 So neither I nor my brothers nor my servants nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes; each kept his weapon at his right hand.  Nehemiah 4:21-23 English Standard Version (ESV).  Worldly people are opposed to the love and message of Christ.  So Jesus cautions the Saints to be on guard against the evils in this world. “16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16 ESV.   Jesus cautions us, to shrewdly engage the world ("as shrewd as serpents") and in Jesus’ righteousness ("as innocent as doves").  This is how we are to proceed; shrewdly and in innocence as we carry the love of Jesus to a lost world.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 3; Every Israelite lent a hand toward the building up of the walls of Jerusalem. The work was equally divided, so that every one knew what do, and they did it, with a will to do their best work without conflict, or strife. The wall was rebuilt for the public good in God’s name.  1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.… 32 And between the upper chamber of the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and the merchants repaired.  Nehemiah 3:1…32 English Standard Version (ESV).  When we do any ministry or function in the Church, at home or at work we are called upon to do our best.   As a member of the community and in the body of Christ each of us must strive to function always doing our best for Jesus; “2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:2-5 ESV.  No matter what we are doing we are working for Jesus and not to please men.
